4 Reasons to Share the Gospel Today

I am writing this as a response to a video I saw recently. In that a lady was assaulted for sharing the Gospel in central Amsterdam. My heart was heavy as I watched this, and I felt an urgent need to speak up. This feeling has been with me for about a week before seeing this video but that incident was the last straw. For me, that means going out on the streets more, but also picking up writing again and sharing. So here we go again with my writing journey.

At this point, there is no denying that we are living in the end times. In Isaiah 60:2, we read that darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the people. One look into the news, social media or any other channel and we get bombarded with all negative news, one darker than the other, murder, rape, slaughter, gunshots, you name it.

And even though these times look like it is time to be quiet, to keep a low profile, to go with the flow, to conform, it is time for the opposite. It is time to go all in for the Lord, to let out light shine, to be loud, bold, and unafraid. It is time to let our voices be heard and proclaim the goodness of God.

The verse in Isaiah 60:2 does not end with darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the people but it says BUT the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
So while it is getting darker around us, it is even more so the time to arise, to speak up, to let our voices be heard! Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Here are four reasons (plus one extra) why we should go out and preach the Gospel. Why we should share the good news, and why it is time to arise and go.

1. Because the Bible said so
In Mark 16:15, Jesus says Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. This is the great commission; this is what we ought to do. People are wondering about their call and purpose, this is it! Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature; this is your purpose. That is what you, me, we as believers are here for.

This is the last thing Jesus told his disciples before he left. Jesus did not say that as a suggestion; this is the great commission. Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost. He did the complete work on the cross, and when He said: It is finished, it was. He did all he had to do. Now it is time for us.

Here you find a link to the soulwinning script that we use at my church. This is such a great and easy tool that helps you lead people to Christ. All you have to do is read it out loud, and the Word does the rest.

Honestly, you will see what a joy and fulfilment flow from this. It is such a privilege to see someone making the most crucial decision of their life and being able to be a part of it.

2. Because we have the answer to a lost and broken world
In a world where people are lost, broken, cast down, depressed, lonely, afraid, and more, looking in all the wrong places for answers and solutions, we come carrying the Good News. We come bringing light into the darkness. The answer to all brokenness and hate is not more of that, but it is Jesus. Jesus is the only answer to the problems of this world, and we carry that.

We know Him who saved us, the one who took us out of the myrrh clay, the one who saw us when no one else did. We know Jesus, and people can see him through us. So rather than sowing more hate, discord, and division, we carry the light and can lead people to the only answer there is: Jesus.

3. Because we love the Lord
Have you ever been in love? The kind that bubbles up from the inside of you, where thinking about a person puts a smile on your face and makes you giggle. The kind where you share every moment with them and want to get to know every part of them. The kind that people see on your face from a mile away. The kind where you want everyone to know how amazing your person is. Ever had that before?

You know love is an action word. Out of the love we have for someone, we do something. Naturally, we might spend time with them, buy gifts, share words of affirmation, etc. Love will compel us to do something. The same is true in our relationship with the Lord. Because of the love that we have for him, we want to do what pleases him, but also naturally share about him. Sharing the Gospel is a love response. Jesus said: If you love me, keep my commandments, and one of those is to preach the Gospel.

4. To keep the main thing the main thing
We can get so busy and distracted being involved in good things that we forget the main thing. It is people and souls. Even within our Christian borders, we can get so busy serving, building, debating that our gaze shifts from the main thing to other things. Yet we ought to go and preach the Gospel and make disciples.

Sharing the Gospel is not just another thing; it is the main thing! By focusing on that, our perspective shifts again to what truly matters, and we can start seeing people in light of eternity. Preaching the Gospel realigns us and focuses on what Jesus died for on the cross, and ensures that everything else we do flows out of that knowledge. Certain issues that we might deal with become very small in light of eternity.

5. (Bonus) To piss off the devil
The devil is out here to steal, kill and destroy wherever he goes. To destroy families, people, destinies, everything. And what he wants is that we remain silent during it all. That we are afraid and stop speaking up, but with every attack, our response should get louder. Not in hate but in love and truth. He wants us to stop sharing the Gospel, we will do it three times as hard just because.

There are so many more reasons as to why share the Gospel. If you have any, feel free to share them. In general, I hope that at least once you will try to share the Gospel with random strangers on the street, colleagues, friends, family members, etc. I can assure you, it is a joy to share the Gospel.

Be blessed!
